ORA Incorporates Womens Class into Pilot Season
Dec. 27, 2009
Beginning with its first season, the ORA will offer a class created specifically for female racers. The Womens 380 class will follow the same rules as those described for the Junior I class, and identified in the 2009-2010 ISR yearbook, meaning participants will be allowed to race 340 to 380 cc stock snowmobiles. The advantage of following these rules is that snowmobiles that fit those criteria are a manageable size for novice female racers and are also readily available and easy to find.
This introductory class will be available to females ages fourteen and up. In order to guarantee the safety and insurance coverage of all the participants, all females ages ten to thirteen will not be allowed to race in the Womens 380 class. These racers, however, may race in the Junior Novice and Junior I classes. The goal of this class is to give women and girls the opportunity to race and to ultimately add to the overall number of ice oval racers. Not only will this class serve as an entry-level class for girls who have graduated from smaller sleds, but will also provide females who have always wanted to try racing a chance to do so.
So gather up your sisters, moms, girlfriends, aunts and anyone other females you know who are looking to try something fun and new and bring them to Sauk Centre (February 5-7th), Grey Eagle (February 20-21st) or Garrison (February 27-28th).
