The 47th World Championship Snowmobile Derby
Jan. 11, 2010
Well, here it is folks, the “Big One”! Once again, the World Championship Snowmobile Derby is upon us. The famous Derby Track in Eagle River is hallowed ground for those of us who share this love for the sport of ice oval racing, and this coming weekend January 14-17 promises to be as exciting as ever.
Every year in mid-January, the snowmobile racing world shifts its focus to Eagle River, WI for the coveted World Championship Derby. There will be racers from throughout the US and Canada converging on the Derby Track, all with hopes of claiming one of those beautiful bronze Eagles.
Fans at this year’s Derby will be able to watch several past World Champions competing this year. Jacques Villenueve of St-Cuthbert, Quebec, Canada will be there trying for his 4th World Championship, as will another 3-time winner P.J. Wanderscheid of Sauk Centre, MN. 2-time winner Gary Moyle of Houghton, MI will try to pilot his Ski-Doo to a third Championship as well.
Looking for his 3rd consecutive World Championship in 2010 is Brian Bewcyk of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Bewcyk, aboard his Ski-Doo powered MPH racing machine has been the class of the field over the past 2 World Championship Derbys and all eyes will be on the #39 as he tries to make it 3 in a row at Eagle River.
Oval Racers Alliance would like to wish everyone good luck this weekend at the Derby. If you would like more information about the event, please visit their website at www.derbytrack.com
